Gorseinon (Gorse-eye-non)
Gorseinon is a small town 8 miles outside of Swansea. It’s not as well known a place as some of the others on this list but I had to mention it, as it’s my home town. The story behind the name is generally accepted to have originated with the battle between Prince Meredith and Eynon Hywel in 991 CE. Having defeated Meredith and his army, Eynon Hywel camped his army on marshland near Penllergaer for a time in case Meredith should return. From that day on it became known as Gors Eynon (Eynon’s Marsh).
